Serene 20/20 Hindsight:
"Favorite compilation to be asked to contribute to? Any collated by Ryan Avery and Related Records- the man is a genius."
And across the other spectrum of music...
Favorite part of any Italian wedding? When the terrible Italian wedding band works themselves into what they perceived to be their funkiest song. "Celebrate: by Kool and the Gang and someone named Alphonso lowers his voice inn an effort to sound more black when he growls "it's a celebration"
I'm channeling Ryan Avery, Kool and the Gang and Italian wedding bands for "Did I Use The Word "Divorce"? It's a Separation!" Which appeared on the Related Records digital comp in 2014, around the same time Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow called it quits and introduced that savage word 'uncoupling.'
Song this most rips off: My favorite line from any record? It'ss from "Love Jones" by Brighter Side of Darkness" when a lovestruck kid who is flinking school because of his crush tells the object of his desire "I don't want to bore you with some 'irrevolent' conversation". I'm doing his spoken word prowess and of course doing the felonious sampling of Kool and his gang. I would rip off this track for myself without the Kool sample for "No Direction" which appeared on Silver Alert two years later.
lyrics
Did I Use The Word "Divorce"? It's a Separation!
Based on the Father's Day song of the same name
Spoken: I think it's about time for me to get serious with choo
Yes I've come to talk to you about "uncoupling"
Now I don't want to come out of a bag like Gwyneth and Chris
And I ain't talking the division of property
And who gets the Lamborghini
And the custody of Apple
What I mean is...
Did I Use The Word "Divorce"? It's a Separation!
Did I Use The Word "Divorce"? It's a Separation!
Spoken:
Now I don't want to bore you with some 'irrevolent' conversation
But I wish you wouldn't look at me that way.
What's that, doll? What way are you looking at me?
Why shucks doll, you're looking at me with those puppy dog eyes
I mean it's not like we're not gonna see each other anymore
We can still come over each other's house and play Parcheesi
Did I Use The Word "Divorce"? It's a Separation!
