Fornicator
Words and music by Serene Dominic copyright 1987, 2022
lyrics
Would you give up heaven to be fornicator?
OOOOO - baby would you?
The deacons were all strumming their out of tune guitars
If they knew what was coming, we'd be behind bars
You looked up from your missalette, gave a telling wink
While the specter of Sister Ann was watching everything
She said no amount of talk could make a wrong thing right
No afterworlds after tonight
Would you give up heaven to be fornicator?
OOOOO - baby would you?
Would you give up heaven to be fornicator?
OOOOO - baby would you?
The venial sins were numbered with foot long explanations
Our biggest sins to date were dime store temptations
My brother Steve's an expert, with feel experience
Knowing all the twirlers in the Biblical sense
You're the only girl who hasn't shrugged or laughed or winced
Godamnned us both for saying this
Would you give up heaven to be fornicator?
OOOOO - baby would you?
Would you give up heaven to be fornicator?
OOOOO - baby would you?
Some people hear that booming voice and start to pray a lot
Drop their whole life's savings in quarter candle slots
Some people kiss the carvings and pocket chips of paint
That fell off the statues of their favorite saints
If they knew the truth about us, they'd spit into our palms
But they'll welcome us back with open arms
Surely hell awaits us, and we'll be fornicators
We'll tie the knot soon
Would you give up heaven to be fornicator?
OOOOO - baby would you?
Serene: "A lot of catholic guilt went into this song. Every RPM challenge I get to polish up something that has just been sitting in the hopper that is completely outside of the RPM Challenge February period. This song's melody and chord progression dates back to 1981 or 1982, the lyrics here are from 1987, the basic recording for this revamp was last summer, so what did I do besides add guitars, vocals and serve? Not much but since I already met the10 song, 35-minute requirement, it allowed me a chance to fish this one out. It was written during pre-Cana classes before my marriage where clearly everyone there were technically fornicators for canoodling around before taking their vows. I performed this song with my band Holiday Slides in Germany for Berlin Independence Days in October 1989. I believe Galaxy 500 was on one of the two shows we played there a week before the Berlin Wall fell."
