Serene 20/20 hindsight:
“Nowadays when someone says ‘I hear you’ it feels like they are just patronizing you so I wrote a song about when you actually hear somebody. This song is ancient, written when I was 23 and it was a hidden track on my band The Holiday Slides cassette-only release “Can You Count the Brunettes?”
It was re-recorded at Phoenix College by the good men of M.B.E. (Mutant Beatles Experiment) around 2005 or 2006 and we performed it a bunch of times. Mutant Beatles Expo only do all the pre-mustache Beatles covers. I tried to get them to move to do originals and picked a few songs that I could see a Beatles lineup do and sneak into our set. This EP, Mutants on Ice, is as far as we got. We also recorded a bunch of Beatles covers to get gigs but those have been successfully buried. Their existence reminds me of what someone wrote about the Beatlemania Cast Album. 'Anyone who plays this instead of a Beatles album should be shot.'”
Song this most closely rips off
“Not sure but because of the cheesy organ sound on this recording, I'm thinking of the end of ‘Love Me Two Times’ by The Doors.” In the Holiday Slides, the keyboard was always really prominent It was hard to write rockers unless it's a pounding piano. So that's why this one was dusted off."
lyrics
I Hear You
written by Serene Dominic
I never dreamed this would happen to me, slowly slowly,
Full Speed Ahead is how it had to be
your face was a blur
but your voice made me oh so sure
I hear you...
I hear you….
See Dick and Jane by the big sea shore
Reaching for a pink seashell
They'll put it up to their ears for a spell
and expect the ocean's Roar
But that don't work for me anymore
I hear you...
I hear you….
Picked up the phone but I bet you don't expect to find me inside
Some prayers a long shot some prayers are long distance
You changed my life can you change my mind
