I Lost My World on a String
Words and music by Serene Dominic copyright 2022
lyrics
I don't know where I am bound
I don't belong in this town
You should have known me back when
I was sure who I was
And I loved without cause
Til I lost my world on a string
Pounding the pavement for work
Don't have a real sense of worth
Money is a fleeting thing
I gotta survive
Things have taken a dive
Since I lost my world on a string
Someday I'll be back on top again
Whatever top means,
TBD when but until then
I don't know where I am bound
What have they done to downtown?
Can't seem to find anything
Nothing's where it should be
And the same goes for me
Since I lost my world on a string
Someday I'll be back on top again
Whatever top means,
TBD when but until then
I don't know where I am bound
I don't belong in this town
You should have known me back when
I was sure who I was
And I loved without cause
Til I lost my world on a string
Yes I lost my world on a string
I lost my world on a string

About "I Lost My World on a String"
Serene: "This is as true a folk song as I have since I always play it when I pick up a guitar but as far as I can tell it has never been written down anywhere. My guess is I wrote that melody when I was 22 or 23. I borrowed a red Telecaster from Carter Durkham, our steel player in San Jacinto Prison Band because he had it set up with Nashville tuning, so it sounds like a 12 string and makes everything sound Byrds-y. Of course, this has nothing to do with the Bronx, however I did first see A Hard Day's Night there. In a movie house that became a porno theater a few years later."
