I Rebelled Last Night

about

Serene 20/20 Self-Analysis:

"Winter Trance Party is an album I made in February 2012 when I was obsessed with Buddy Holly's ill-fated 1959 tour, dead people and people who freezed to death. Why my life had taken this morbid turn was likely because I was about to end a relationship where I felt I was being coerced into being a conformist and discouraged at being a working musician. Maybe I was, maybe I wasn't. All I know was that I couldn't have been much fun to be around, working myself into a catatonic state every night that month, not putting on the heat in my house and letting things get to an uncomfortable 50 degrees before pressing the record button so I could get the feel of people left out in the cold to die. 'Chill out' would have been a dangerous thing to say to me at the time, it might've pushed me over the edge,."

"Why such rebelliousness? After making the record I w always wanted to make with 24 Originals Happening Now, I decided to make a record that ignored my natural impulse to always want to please people and instead pursue every discordant or off-putting musical idea to make people uncomfortable. Oddly enough , the video tries to do the same thing: it's taken from the 1961 film Young, Willing and Eager,"

Fun Facts:
"The wintry sound you hear at the end was achieved with echo and rubbing a Shure microphone along my dungaree pants ."

"It contains the stupidest line I ever wrote but it makes me laugh every time - 'Too many chefs will make me stew."

Song it most closely rips off:
"I Take It We're Through" by The Riot Squad because was going for a Joe Meek sound overall and I always associated his productions with winter, like his equally morose snowfalling ballad "Tribute to Buddy Holly." And because that's when I first heard "It's Hard to Believe It," the Razor and Tie Joe Meek collection compiled by Dennis Dikken of the Smithereens."

lyrics

I Rebelled Last Night
words and music by Serene Dominic

You should have tried to keep me warm
Instead of pushing for reform

So I rebelled last night
I wasn't having any
Oh but you tried
I rebelled last night

When you tried to take my mind
And expect that I'd respond in kind

Well I - I rebelled last night
I wasn't gonna kow tow
Didn't feel right
I rebelled last night

Well I went on a little bender
That didn't fit in your agenda
Trying to orchestra what I do
Too many chefs will make me stew

There's freedom in being afraid
I no longer need your restraints on me

Well I , I rebelled last night
I wasn't having any
Of what you tried
I rebelled last night
