Serene: I wrote a rough sketch of this the night Ronnie Spector died (Jan 12), basically the chord sequence, the drum pattern and the "Baby Baby" part. My original intention was to sing it all in falsetto, but I wound up sounding like Frankie Valli instead, going full throated and then up to head voice.
For a few days, I kept lapsing into Frankie Valli vocals and even went to karaoke at Bullocks to sing "Swear to God." It was like the week I learned I could yodel and annoyed the shit out of everyone til I stopped."
It's a happy song about not being afraid of dying alone anymore. The first half of your life you're afraid of dying alone and then the rest of your life you're afraid of being stuck with the wrong person till death do you part. I guess the idea of living alone on Allerton Avenue isn't affecting some people adversely."
