"A primer on the history of music stealing. It didn't start with the little Napsters" . Around 2003 when a co-worker showed me Acquisition and Frostbte downloading sites. After years of saying , "this is stealing," i went on a looting spree. I justified it by downloading music I already owned on vinyl but was too lazy to digitize. Then I justified it by downloading bootleg and out of print stuff. before I knew it I could've been a poster boy on the RIAA's most wanted list. Then my house was robbed and much of that stuff was in books of CD-Rs that the banditos stole hoping to get banking records. Can't imagine that they're grooving to Kate Bush and Captain Beefheart now. A lot of the records mentioned in this song were actual Columbia House and RCA Record Club selections I purloined over the years. And I did order Diamond Dogs which had The Best Jim Reeves Volume 3 even tho the label said Diamond Dogs. Should kept it.
lyrics
I was 14 years old and I didn't know all that much
Then a buddy told me about The Amnesia Record Club
All your favorites old and new
Carole King and Queen too
Elton John, the Moody Blues
The list goes on and on
Everybody hoot and holler
12 albums for only a dollar
Less than a penny a song
What an incredible offer
You don't even need a stamp
Waited four to six weeks for that sacrosanct box to come
With my 13 selections from The Amnesia Record Club
Coz i didn't forget the gold box
Where my bonus selection was marked
When I got "Diamond Dogs" played "The Best of Jim Reeves Vol 3"
Everybody hoot and holler
13 albums for only a dollar
Less than a penny a song
What an incredible offer
I didn't even need a stamp
And every month unless I sent in the card
They sent me something else I didn't want
Like "Helen Reddy in Concert"
I wrote upon it "return to sender"
(That ain't no way to treat a lady....)
I was 41 years old and I still didn't know that much
Then a co-workertold me about The Amnesty File Sharing Club
All my favorites old and new
Carole King and Queen too
Helen Reddy, 2 Live Crew
The list goes on and on
Everybody holler and hoot
12 trillion albums you don't pay a dollar
Less than a penny a song
What an incredible offer
I didn't even need a stamp
